Hood and Rhythm were downstairs with Jake, but I made sure to stay close to Lyrica. As Doctor Greg examined her, I stood in the room watching him intensely, when I noticed his eyebrows furrow.

“What’s wrong Doc?” I asked, worried.

“Well, it looks like her cervix is damaged, which is normally due to a botched abortion. I’m probably going to need to stitch her up to make sure she can hold this baby in a little while longer.”

The doctor was still talking, but I was still stuck on hearing the word abortion. I didn’t want to jump to conclusions and, right now, my focus needed to be on Lyrica getting better. But, we would definitely be having a conversation. I needed to know when, where, and how she had an abortion, and if it was my child she had aborted. Needing some air, I walked outside and lit up a Newport one hundred cigarette to ease my mind. This had been a nasty habit that I picked up over the months, but it had kept me through.

“Aye Killa, Lyrica just came to and is asking for you!” Hood yelled out the door.

Turning to look at him, I resumed smoking my cigarette like I had not heard him. Even though for months I had awaited this very moment, I could not stand to look at her at the moment. Walking down my driveway, I ignored Hood’s shouting for me to come on cause both my heart and mind were going through a battlefield.

“Lyrica, girl, you better let what the doctor said be a lie.” I shook my head and took another pull of the Newport.
